Canaan Dog
Canaan Dog, the national dog of Israel is a guard dog native to the Middle East. Middle East dog breeds were and are still used for guarding herds, camps by the Bedouins and Druse. This medium-sized sacred ancient dog has a cautious, intelligent and alert temperament. These Pariah breeds are nowadays kept as companions and used in dog sports too.
Canaan Dogs are highly adaptable to any lifestyle, requiring moderate exercise, proper training and early socialisation. Easy to groom, it has short-haired coats of fawn, black, liver or tan shades with markings, long curled up tail, erect ears and features a stout build. They have a longevity of 12-15 years and are prone to hypothyroidism, epilepsy and patellar luxation.
